The Game-Changing Mindset Shift Every Entrepreneur Should Embrace
And why I’m finally choosing to stop letting life mess me around.
This month marks the final stretch of my time as Executive Director of an organization I’ve poured my heart into—one that’s shaped me, sharpened me, and shown me what’s possible when women build with purpose.
It’s bittersweet. But it’s also time.
Time to step into the business I’ve quietly been building behind the scenes. Time to become the entrepreneur I’ve always been becoming. Time to live what I teach.
And as I move through this transition, there’s one mindset shift that’s keeping me grounded, energized, and unusually calm—even in the midst of all the unknowns:
Don’t let life mess you around.
For years, I let external circumstances determine how I showed up. Whether a grant came through. Whether a team dynamic felt off. Whether I got the recognition I worked for. Whether I was tired or overwhelmed or burnt out.
But somewhere along the way—somewhere between a nonprofit board meeting, a client emergency, or a call about a stray rabbit—I realized I had a choice.
I could let life pull me in every direction. Or I could stand in my own.
That doesn’t mean pretending things don’t hurt. It means refusing to let hard things hijack my joy, my calling, or my peace.
This shift didn’t make life easier. But it did make me stronger. More focused. Less emotionally reactive. More in tune with what matters.
And that, I’ve learned, is everything in business (for-profit or not).
Because leadership will test your resilience daily. If you don’t know what you believe—about yourself, your worth, your capacity—life will write that story for you.
So today, if you’re navigating transition, building something new, or wondering if you’re cut out for this path, I’ll leave you with this:
Don’t let life mess you around.
Hold your vision tighter than your fear.
And trust that when you lead from a grounded place, you cannot lose.
Un abrazo,
Carol
